The Lion King Jr - July 10 - July 11, 2021

Aspire Performing Arts Company

 DIRECTOR'S NOTE

Thank you so much for joining us for Disney's The Lion King Jr. this weekend. This group of young actors has worked incredibly hard to put together this production in just over a month's time. The creative team and I are so proud of what they have created, and are excited for you to witness their work.

The story of The Lion King is one that is known and loved. Loosely based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet, with many catchy musical numbers, alternate plot points, and lion cubs thrown in, The Lion King tells the story of family and finding your way home. It feels fitting to me to tell this story after the distancing that this past year and a half has called for. Many relationships had to be maintained from afar, and our art became a virtual experience. While there has been a joy in finding ways to still create theatre through ZOOM, nothing can replace the spark of live theatre. To be together in a space again with these young actors telling a story of reuniting with their voices, bodies, and imaginations has been a breath of fresh air.

The performance you are watching today would not have been possible without the remarkable creative team and the numerous volunteers we had to help throughout the process. Thank you to each of you for lending your talents, time, and love. Additionally, I would be remiss if I did not extend my true thanks to all of the family and friends of each of the cast members on stage today. Stepping onto the stage and sharing your art  is an act of bravery and vulnerability, and it is thanks to you that these young actors feel supported and encouraged to make that step.

As the show begins, “The Circle of Life” plays, and the actors find their spots on the stage, take a moment to look around, take a deep breath, and feel the power of reuniting together in a space once again.

With sincere gratitude,

Brooke
