Mean Girls Jr. - January 30 - January 31, 2026

McCarthy Middle School

 MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Mean Girls finds it’s origin in a book titled, “Queen Bees and Wannabes” written by Rosalind Wiseman in 2002.  Tiny Fey adapted the story into the 2004 movie starring Lindsay Lohan, which won People's Choice and Teen Choice Awards that year, and becoming an instant popular culture movie staple. A musical adaptation with music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin premiered in 2017, bringing the story to the stage with new songs and characters. It was nominated for 12 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, further propelling the story into the hearts of audiences. And finally in 2024, a new film version of the musical was released, blending elements from the original movie and the stage show, directed by Tina Fey and featuring even more new songs. Mean Girls has definitely become a teen favorite with Hero & Villain anthems and icons, and we are thrilled to bring you the Junior version of this fantastic show!

As I am not a one-woman show, there are many people to thank for getting us to this weekend. I’d especially like to thank:

...Ginger Skoog! Joining me this year as Tech director as well as tackling many administrative things, “Thank you” just doesn’t seem adequate enough. You are so very appreciated!

...My production team including Bex Rogers-Stage director, Uli Skoog-Costume Designer,

Siobhan Frugoli and Zoe Fredericks-Choreographers, Cullen Walker-Costumes (& "Cricut Master"), Mackenzie Rau-Props Master, Claire Bardo-Set Team Lead, Kelsey Levine- Asst. Stage director, and Rithvika Varma and Ryiya Surapaneni-Publicity Leads. I so appreciate all the hours of hard work and creativity. You’re so Fetch!  I am so proud of you guys. Thank you for making my job easy!

...CHS tech team including Stella Bonner-Stage Manager, Jacob Mulholland-Lighting Design, and Sydney Tambo-Audio. I appreciate your precision, hard work, and creativity. Thanks for illuminating and magnifying the cast. We couldn’t be fantastic without you guys!

...Kerrie Moore...once again, you have provided great photos that capture the kids and their characters perfectly! Thank you so much!

...Tom and Craig, I just appreciate you both so much. Thank you for the support behind the scenes!

...All of the parents who volunteered their time and talent for this show—there are many moving parts to a musical production and it’s so great to have so many parents jump in and get it done with a smile. A special thank you to the parent team leads including Amanda Collison, Mike DeVito, John O'Malley, Rick Cockley, Erica Redner-Light, Justin Rey, Jen Petro-Roy, Karen Colantuonio, Jason Goodin, Megan Greenwood, Jennifer Hecking, Kati Pessin, Rebecca Stoodley, Laura Wilkinson, Abby Ciardi, Kerri Kelly, Lisa Lovett, Melissa Foley-Procko, Priyanka Dash & Diane Meehan.
