BKLYN: The Musical is a story about finding where you belong, holding onto hope, and choosing who you become. At its core, this show celebrates imagination, resilience, and the bravery it takes to believe in yourself, even when the world feels stacked against you.
Co-directing the students of Tradition Preparatory High School’s Theatre Program has been an unforgettable experience filled with dedication and joy. Together with our students, we focused on telling this story with honesty and heart, while creating a rehearsal space where performers felt encouraged to take risks and grow as artists. We are incredibly grateful to do what we love every single day, alongside such passionate and hardworking students.
We are deeply grateful to collaborate with our music director, Bella Baro. Bella’s dedication to music and her ability to inspire young musicians is evident in every aspect of this production. Throughout the process, her musical insight brought this score to life—not only helping students learn the music, but guiding them to understand how it supports the story and emotional journey of each character.
We would also like to recognize our alumni, Steven McDowell, whose time, talent, and commitment have helped build a lasting legacy within Tradition Preparatory High School’s Theatre Program. As a student, Steven shined onstage, and as an alumnus, he continues to give back by teaching younger generations the value and importance of technical theatre.
This production of BKLYN: The Musical represents months of growth, commitment, and collaboration. The process pushed students beyond their comfort zones, allowing them to grow not only as performers, but as people. Watching this cast and crew form such strong connections and develop trust both on and off the stage has been truly heartwarming. We are incredibly proud of our students and cannot wait to see what the future holds for them.
