Dear supporters of non-profit theater,
Thank you for joining us for the first production of our fourth season! After producing one show each season for the last three years, Fugitive Songs marks the beginning of our first mult-show season.
I first heard the music from Fugitive Songs about 13 years ago when I discovered the studio cast recording at a no-longer-in-existence CD store. I was immediately drawn into the blend of musical theater, folk, country, pop and rock sounds that Nathan Miller and Chris Tysen created. Fugitive Songs has been on my wish list since then, and I am overjoyed to have you join us for this production.
The 2025 season marks another milestone for Emergent. We have commissioned Matt Conner and Stephen Gregory Smith to pen a new musical just for us! Set against the backdrop of the American Civil War, the musical is based on the bitter rivalry between Edwin Booth and his brother John Wilkes. Both were sons of the most celebrated actor of the 19th century, but the brothers’ lives took different paths - one following in his father’s footsteps to become the most well-regarded actor of this day, the other forever changing the course of American history.
We will be hosting an invitation-only reading of the musical in early Fall, with an expected full production planned for 2026!
To wrap up our 2025 season, we will be teaming up once again with Matt Conner and Stephen Gregory Smith to produce their show Ichabod, an adaptation of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Ichabod will run from October 24th - 26th right here at AMT Theater! Be sure to join our mailing list to receive updates on auditions and performances.
I hope you all enjoy running away with our fugitives during this performance of Fugitive Songs; and remember that even after running away, it is never too late to return home.
Sincerely,
Joey DeMita
